The Road to Recovery

The COVID-19 pandemic has rewritten the rules of business as we know it.  My earlier article The Crossroads’ detailed the core strategies myself and my clients have used to navigate this volatile time and now I want to share with you the Playbook we have developed as we work towards business recovery in a post Covid-19 era.

We’ve identified three key areas that the most resilient leaders are focusing on to emerge from this situation stronger and well equipped for what lies ahead.

 1. Creating a mastermind of Advisors

When going through a crisis, we often carry the psychological weight of being the key decision-maker.  The fast pace of global change surrounds us with noise from the media, experts, friends and colleagues.

This Information overload can prevent even the most decisive of leaders from taking aligned action, therefore it’s important to know where to put your attention.

Formulating a mastermind of key advisors to guide you through and out of Covid-19 will keep your business moving forward, help you focus on the insights that matter most and solve pressing issues quickly.

In 1925, Napoleon Hill coined the phrase “Master Mind” in his famous book, The Law of Success, noting that when people who are dedicated to mutual growth come together success is more likely and longer lasting.

Mastermind tips

  1. Create a clear intention and goal for the group - don’t focus on more than 1-3 goals

  2. Choose people who have cohesion, commitment and always have each others best interests at heart

  3. Keep the group size between 5-10 people -  this means you’ll have enough perspectives but also intimacy and connection.

2. Leading Innovation

The Covid crisis quickly exposed organisations that lacked the technology and systems to manage rapid change.

At River Realty we are combining technology with technique to drive the output and create communication pathways.  We’ve identified where technology is a roadblock to moving forward and where we can use technology to do things better both now and in the future.

Throwing new processes or technology onto a team in an already uncertain environment can cause more harm than good and I recommend taking a staged approach to innovating your way out of the crisis and being prepared for what lies ahead.

Innovation tips

  1. Open communication with your management teams to identify how you can do things better

  2. A weekly ideas session to ensure people feel heard and identify the experts

  3. Creating project teams to roll out new technology and manage communication

3. Setting the power plays

The dramatic uncertainty of a post covid-19 world means that planning too far ahead is daunting. Short-term goals provide a solution to this problem. When properly formulated, they offer a series of milestones that carve a pathway towards the long term.

We’re working in 3 week sprints towards realistic goals that we know we can achieve.  These productivity blocks are keeping everyone motivated and focused.

Power play tips

  1. Behavioural psychology shows us that people respond to achievement  - make sure goals are both attainable and measurable.

  2. Ensuring that goals feel rooted in purpose helps people feel connected to the outcomes

  3. Limiting the number of goals prevents overwhelm and keeps motivation high
